Sizes Tables

Dimensions, lengths and ages for our string instruments and children's guitars..

Successful, motivated playing depends above all on choosing the right size of instrument.
There are many sensible and nonsensical methods for ascertaining the right size. This page describes what in our experience is the most sensible. Please make sure to consult your teacher, or give us a call.

As some age ranges overlap, please proceed as follows for:

  1. scale length your child's stretched out left arm from the neck to the middle of the hand surface
  2. Compare the results with the details stated in our tables

For:

  1. scale length the height of your child
  2. Multiply the height by 0.4 (e.g. 143 cm x 0.4 = 58 cm)
  3. The result when rounded up corresponds approximately to the right scale length
  4. Our table then indicates the right guitar scale length
  5. Please note that this method is not always correct
  6. If in any doubt, please give us a call
  1. The smaller age indicated in the table refers to the minimum age of the child
  2. The greater age refers to the maximum age for the corresponding instrument size
  3. As a rule, it is better for the instrument to be too small than too large
  4. Example: a 6-year old child wants to play the cello. The child is somewhat smaller than other 6-year old children. The right size in this case would be: 1/4
